Carlotona – Children’s Wear

February 2, 2011

One of my Italian friends actually introduced me to CARLOTONA as we were chatting about how difficult it was to find stylish and classical children’s clothes in Germany.  After having lived in Milan for so long I got used to the Italian way of dressing and I had my difficulties at the beginning here in Munich, as the Germans have a much more practical approach to children’s clothing.

CARLOTONA is Spanish not Italian but the style is very similar. Cute elegant blouses, tops and dresses, classical ballerinas and loafers for girls. Shirts, corduroy jackets and trousers for boys and a most lovely Baby collection and matching accessories. CARLOTONA provides everything for little princes and princesses.

The shop is also one of my favorites because it is located close to one of my favorite squares in Munich, the picturesque Wiener Platz in trendy Haidhausen. I can only reccommed to combine a visit at CARLOTONA with  a stop at one of the close by Cafès.

Steinstraße 3, 81667 München

And if you just can’t make it to Wiener Platz then go to http://www.carlotona.com and visit their online shop.

Cafè Glockenspiel

Cafè Restaurant Bar

If you want to see the famous Munich carillon at the new town hall then you should watch it from the roof terrace of this wonderful cafè and restaurant. An inconspicuous entrance where only small sign indicates that there is a restaurant leads from a side street of busy Marienplatz to the staircase or the elevator that brings you up to the 5th floor of the building. From there Cafè Glockenspiel offers the most amazing view on the new town hall with the carillon, in German “Glockenspiel”, which explains the name of the location.

On warm sunny days I would recommend to sit out on the terrace but also the view from the tables near the windows inside is fantastic. If you want to have a guaranteed view you should book in advance. If you are unlucky and picked one of those busy days where it is impossible to get a seat with a view, don’t be sad and go there anyway because even without view the cuisine is something you should not miss. I was actually surprised by the quality… no I was absolutely blown away because I did not expect something so delicious. My personal favorites are the ragout of duck and, oh my god, the cheesecake.

And if this is would not already be enough to make it outstanding, they serve breakfast until 4:00 p.m. So for all party animals this is the right place to go for a very late early morning coffee.
